JMTA coaches attend certain USTA and ITF tournaments to support JMTA juniors. Individual coaching at tournaments is available to JMTA students for an additional cost. Challenge matches, invitational training camps and other special trips are offered throughout the year.

From Long Island, Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx: Take your best route to the Hutchinson River Parkway and proceed north. At exit 17 turn left at light onto North Avenue. At next light, bear left to Mill Road. At next light make right onto California Road. At next light turn right on to White Plains Road. At next light, make right into Lake Isle Country Club and proceed to parking lot. From New Jersey: Tunnel to Leewood Drive. Left turn at 1st stop sign, left turn at light onto White Plains Road (rte 22). At second light make right into Lake Isle Country Club and proceed to parking lot. From Rockland and Connecticut: Take your best route to the Hutchinson River Parkway, southbound. Take exit 18W and make a right onto Mill Rd. Proceed as above. Once you're parked, walk to the entrance to the right of the golf shop and follow signs for the tennis courts.

Our intensive EXCEL Summer Training Camp, located at SPORTIME Lake Isle, is specifically designed for players competing in or striving to compete in USTA Sectional, USTA National and ITF tournaments, and those interested in playing high-school tennis, college tennis and beyond. Our world-class JMTA tennis and performance directors and coaches carefully evaluate EXCEL students, place them in age and level appropriate groups, and customize programs to meet their developmental needs. All levels are welcome.

SPORTIME Lake Isle is located on the grounds of the Lake Isle Country Club adjacent to the Vernon Hills Shopping Center on White Plains Road in Eastchester, NY. It is accessible via the Bronx River, Hutchinson, Cross County, and several other major parkways.
John McEnroe is one of the greatest tennis players of all time. He held the #1 world ranking in singles for 170 weeks between 1980 and 1985, and was the #1 doubles player in the world for a record 257 weeks. He is the winner of 7 Grand Slam singles titles, including 4 US Open titles and 3 Wimbledon titles. He is also widely considered to be the greatest doubles player ever, having won 10 Grand Slam doubles titles and winning his last ATP doubles title in 2006 after a 12 year absence from the ATP Tour. He is the greatest Davis Cup player in history, and he also captained the US Davis Cup Team. John was the captain of Sportime's World TeamTennis franchise, the NY Sportimes, from 2000 to 2013, and he is an Emmy-nominated commentator for CBS, NBC, BBC, ESPN and USA. John grew up in New York City, where he graduated from the Trinity School, and later attended Stanford University, winning an NCAA team and singles title his freshman year. He continues to live in New York City, where he has raised his 6 children.
Lawrence Kleger Director of Tennis, JMTA
A native New Yorker, Lawrence is recognized as one of the top developmental coaches in the US. He has trained more ranked juniors than anyone in the history of the USTA/Eastern Section. Lawrence is also the personal coach of Noah Rubin, who trains at the John McEnroe Tennis Academy and who has been Lawrence's student since the age of 7. Noah is a top American tennis prospect reaching a career-best #14 ITF junior world ranking for boys 18 and under, #1 in U.S. Boys16 and under standings, and reaching the quarter finals of the 2012 Junior French Open. His students have won numerous National and regional Championships and 18 USTA Eastern Year-End Sportsmanship Awards. He is the Director of Tennis of the John McEnroe Tennis Academy, overseeing it at its locations at Sportime Randall's Island in Manhattan, Sportime Bethpage Tennis on Long Island and Sportime Lake Isle in Westchester.
Fritz, a New Jersey native, has had a long and distinguished tennis career; from top junior, to successful ATP Tour Professional, achieving a career high ranking of #21 in singles and #4 in doubles before suffering a career ending foot injury at the age of 25. During his professional career, from 1979-1985, Fritz won one singles title and was a finalist in two other ATP Tour events, posting victories over top 10 players including Cash, Gerulaitis, Gilbert, Gomez, Kriek, and Wilander. As a doubles player, Fritz won 12 titles and was a finalist in 15 other events. In 1983, Fritz was the U.S. Open doubles runner up with partner Van Winitsky, losing to John McEnroe and Peter Fleming. Fritz was a top 50 USTA nationally ranked junior from the age of 10, and was the #1 ranked USTA junior in the 18s. As a college sophomore, Fritz led UCLA to the 1979 NCAA Team Championship, playing #1 singles and #1 doubles. He was the 1979 Pac10 Tennis Player of the Year and an All American. He has over 20 years experience teaching tennis and is an accredited USPTR Professional (1995), ATP Tour Teaching Professional (1995), and European Registry Professional Coach (2000).
Alberto is originally from Zaragoza, Spain, and grew up competing with Nadal, Almagro and Verdasco. He held a top 8 Spanish ranking from the age of 10 and represented Spain in 1998 Junior Davis Cup competition with compatriots Nadal and Almagro. He came to the United States as a top recruit to Auburn University - Montgomery, where he received many honors including 2006 NAIA Rookie of the Year, 2008 and 2010 NAIA Ward-Ballinger outstanding player of the year. Since graduating in 2010, Alberto has split time between earning his MBA and teaching tennis in Alabama and Massachusetts, including working with one of the top juniors in Massachusetts. Most recently, he was the assistant director of tennis at the Greenwich Country club before he joined JMTA at SPORTIME Lake Isle.
Francisco, native of Lima, Peru, was a top 10 nationally ranked junior. He moved to the United States to play college tennis in 2010. He played at Warner University in Florida, was ranked top 290, then transferred to Dowling College where he played #2 singles and #1 doubles. Prior to college, he assisted the Peruvian Fed Cup team as a hitting partner. Before joining SPORTIME Lake Isle, Francisco had previously worked in a few clubs on Long Island, including SPORTIME Quogue.
Mario Leguizamon Assistant Academy Director
Mario, a native of New York, has been a traveling coach for players competing on the ITF Junior Circuit, Futures and US Nationals levels. He has also coached All-American collegiate players along with touring pros at both the US Open and Wimbledon. Before relocating back to NY, Mario was director and co-owner of the tournament training center in Sarasota, Florida from 2010 to 2011. He has held a national ranking in both men's 30s and 35s. Mario is USPTA certified and has over 20 years of teaching experience.
Nelson Escobar Master Pro
Nelson joins us from our SPORTIME Amangansett club, where for the last few summers he has been one of the most popular pros amongst our junior and adult membership. A native of Ecuador, Nelson was a top-20 ranked junior player in his home country while training at the Andres Gomez Academy during his youth. He moved to the United States in 2004 to play for Union College in Kentucky, graduating in business/marketing and management. Nelson's rich college career includes two conference championships as well as several individual awards. He is a certified USPTA instructor, has been coaching throughout the Hamptons since 2005 where he eventually became the head pro at Eastside Tennis academy in Westhampton. In his short time here at the JMTA and SPORTIME Lake Isle, Nelson was promoted to master pro status for the 2013/14 season.

Pablo, originally from Bolivia, was ranked top 5 in his country under 14, 16, and 18. He trained and coached in Manuel Orantes Academy in Barcelona, Spain, before coming to America in 2008. Numbela played at Campbellsville University where he held number 2 singles and number 1 doubles and received his degree in business administration with a marketing emphasis. He was selected as first team All-Conference during every one of the four years of college, and was also named All-American second team. He reached a ranking of #3 in the nation in doubles and number 1 doubles and number 8 singles in the Southeast Region in the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association). Pablo was a member of the NCAA national championship team at Campbellsville University before coming to Lake Isle in September, 2012.
