“Serving well and playing aggressively worked in Jamie Loeb’s favor as she moved past the first round of the U.S. Open women’s qualifying tournament Tuesday at the USTA Billie King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadow.
The 18-year-old Ossining graduate defeated Veronica Cepede Royg of Paraguay 6-1, 6-3. The victory puts Loeb in Thursday’s second round.
“It was a really good experience,” Loeb said. “From the moment I walked on the court the crowd and everything made it a really good match to be a part of.”
