Sportime and the John McEnroe Tennis Academy are pleased to announce the launch of Mac 1, an invitation-only program designed to recognize a special group of JMTA’s “top tier” students, and to allow those students to serve as role models for the rest of the Academy. The inaugural 2014-2015 Mac 1 class has been selected by JMTA’s team of Academy Directors, in consultation with Johnny Mac. Selections were based on each student’s competitive success and leadership qualities, including his/her ranking in age group, athletic and tennis potential, dedication, work ethic and attitude.
Members of Mac 1 are expected to abide by stringent Mac 1 guidelines. Mac 1 is not a “lifetime” appointment and members must maintain the high personal standards and continue the competitive success that led to their induction, and must meet their obligations to Sportime/JMTA, to remain Mac 1 members.
JMTA Managing Director Bennett Schlansky explains, “In our efforts to continue to raise the bar at JMTA, we are very excited to have launched Mac 1 at JMTA, and we look forward to its continued evolution. In an Academy setting it is critical to have a group of players at the top of the “pyramid”- young players who exhibit admirable work ethic and sportsmanship and who achieve competitive success – qualities and achievements to which other Academy students will aspire. At JMTA, that’s Mac 1.”
The inaugural Mac 1 class was inducted on Wednesday, December 10th, at a ceremony for the players and their families held at the famed Red Rooster in West Harlem, NYC.
