Our very own Jamie Loeb was interviewed alongside her Coach Felix Alvarado about their exciting trip to the Australian Open. Check out their comments below.

Jamie Loeb recently won the singles title at the USTA Winter Nationals in Scottsdale, AZ for the second year in a row, also had some amazing results.  She won both the singles and doubles titles at pro events in Buffalo, NY and in Amelia Island, FL and she participated in the main draw of the U.S. Open juniors.  Jamie is currently #695 on the WTA women’s professional circuit, and now heading “Down Under” to play the 2013 Australian Open juniors.

Question for Jamie. How have you been preparing for the Junior Aussie Open?

Jamie. “I came back from winning Winter Nationals in AZ, which has given me confidence going in to the Aussie Open. This past week I have been training and working on my transition game and tactics along with staying hydrated and watching my diet”.

Question for Coach Alvarado. How have your been preparing Jamie for the Junior Aussie Open?

Felix: “I am working on placement and pace of her approach shot along with an explosive first step after hitting the approach. I am also helping her gain confidence prior to match play by playing sets against top male pros from the JMTA each day leading up to our trip”.

Question for Jamie. What are your expectations going in to the Junior Aussie Open?

Jamie. “My main goal is focus on my first match and not look ahead too much. I’m going in with a positive attitude and hope to have a great experience there”.

Question for Coach Felix Alvarado. What are your expectations for Jamie going in to the Junior Aussie Open?

Felix: “Obviously, my goal for her is that she does a good job, it’s clearly difficult due to traveling such a long distance and training indoors as opposed to summer heat. However, I want to see Jamie come out a junior champion, but most importantly I want her to have the best experience possible”.

Question for Jamie. Is this the furthest you’ve traveled away from home?

Jamie. “This is my very first time out of the country; I am really looking forward to experiencing the “down under and maybe seeing a kangaroo or two”.

Question for Coach Felix. Is this your furthest distance traveling with a JMTA student?

Felix: “Yes, this will be my furthest distance traveling with a JMTA player. I’ve traveled with Jamie all over the United States, but never quite this far. I will make sure she sees a kangaroo or two”.

Question for Jamie.   How do you feel traveling such a long distance without your mom?

Jamie. “Considering my mom travels with me to every tournament, this will be a big change. However, I believe this trip will help me gain my independence along with responsibility and help me prepare for college in August”.
