Mission: To expose young athletes in the United States, and particularly in the greater New York metropolitan area to the sport of tennis, as a life-long health, fitness and well-being activity, and for some such athletes, introduce them to high level, competitive tennis, in each case, by raising public and private funds in order to (1) provide scholarships to attend a New York City-based tennis academy/training facilty, (2) receive private and group lessons, practice time and match play, (3) provide funding to offset the costs and expenses associated with travel to regional, national and international trounaments, including on-site coaching at such tournaments, and (4) build, expand and/or enhance the tennis-related facilities and infrastructure in connection therewith.

Since September of 2011, JMTP has helped fund programs that have provided students at local public and charter schools, including P.S. 57, P.S. 88, P.S. 112, P.S. 96, Manhattan East School for the Arts & Academics, the Renaissance School of the Arts, the DREAM School at Harlem RBI and Hyde Leadership Charter School, with free weekly tennis clinics for 25-40 children per day.

In the current school year, JMTP will help enable Sportime Randall’s Island and the John McEnroe Tennis Academy to continue to fund and expand these programs, and to embark upon additional community offerings, such as our new partnership with Wellness in the Schools, through which we send tennis professionals to public schools in East Harlem every school day and introduce children to tennis during recess/lunch period at their own schools.

JMTP has also supported its goals of exposing young athletes in the greater New York metropolitan area to the sport of tennis, and providing coaching and financial support for a number of young athletes as they have competed in high level, competitive tournament tennis.
