Sasha Lebedev finished his run in this week’s Grade 4 ITF event in Lexington, South Carolina when he lost to the #9 seed, Walker Duncan of the U.S., 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3 in the 3rd round. Sasha, after needing to qualify for the tournament, won both of his first two round matches in straight sets. He was one of only three qualifiers to reach the 3rd round.
As Sasha’s tournament comes to a close, Noah Rubin’s tournament in Bradenton, FL kicks off. Noah is seeded 7th in the IMG Academy $10k Futures tournament. He won his first round match yesterday in straights 6-3, 6-4 over South African Damon Gooch and today cruised by his 2nd round opponent, American qualifier Reilly Opelka 6-0, 6-3. When asked about his expectations for Noah, Noah’s coach, JMTA Director Lawrence Kleger said, “Noah seems to handling the rough wind conditions extremely well. He did a great job of holding serve and converting on almost all of his break point opportunities. Tomorrow will be another tough opponent so he will have to continue to play well to get through this draw.”
Tomorrow Noah takes on Japan’s rising star, Naoki Nakagawa, who has played two very close matches to reach the 3rd round. Naoki won his 1st round match 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 and his 2nd round match 7-6(7), 7-6(3). Should be a good match tomorrow!
