Murray, Federer, Serena all advance. Kvitova loses a heartbreaker.
While top seeds advance, Petra Kvitova  of the Czech Republic lost a heartbreaker to 18 year old British up-and-comer Laura Robson. Robson is playing in her 2nd Australian Open (lost 1st Round in 2012). Robson’s ranking, currently 53, has been on the rise ever since reaching the 4th round of the U.S. Open this past September.
Her match against Kvitova came down to a 3rd set where Robson was down 3-0 before battling back to be on serve again at 2-3. Kvitova double faulted 18 times in this 3 hour epic, 8 of which occurred in the 3rd set. After the match, Kvitova said, “I don’t think that I ever had a worse serve than today.”
