SPORTIME Camp Guidelines

SPORTIME’s commitment to creating a happy and safe environment for your children has guided our work for more than 25 years. Our children’s camps are places where every camper can have fun, make friends, learn, and create lifelong memories.

In the context of COVID-19, our focus remains the health and wellbeing of our campers, our camp families and our staff. Below are the guidelines SPORTIME will follow for the summer of 2021, which may change, based upon state and local government mandates.

Notwithstanding all the precautions that SPORTIME will take, due to the nature of the virus, the risk of contracting COVID-19 remains. Please be safe, respect others and follow all protocols.

Daily Health Self Assessments - Staff and Campers

  • We ask that camp staff and camper parents/guardians complete a quick, self-assessment health screening for themselves/their child(ren) in advance of their arrival at camp each day, or prior to boarding a SPORTIME transportation vehicle, as follows:
I/My player(s) has not experienced any of the following symptoms in the past 10 days:
    • Fever of 100.4° or above
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Fatigue
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Any other signs of illness
    • I/My player(s) have/has not tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 10 days.
  • I/My player(s) have/has not been in close contact with someone with a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case in the past 10 days, or, if I/my player(s) have/has been in contact with someone with a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 in the past 10 days, I/my player(s) am/is fully vaccinated and am/is asymptomatic, or have/has recovered from COVID-19 in the past 3 months and am/is asymptomatic.
  • If I/my player(s) have/has arrived from another State or Country within the last 24 hours, I/we have adhered to the New York State mandatory travel guidelines. Click here to view.
  • If an employee/parent/guardian is not able to confirm statements 1-4 above, then such person(s) should not come to a SPORTIME club, and should contact the Camp Director immediately for further instructions.
  • Any staff member or camper exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, either upon arrival, or at any point during the camp day, will be sent home.
  • Any staff member or camper who reports/exhibits COVID-19 symptoms will be required to take a COVID-19 test immediately, so that if the test result is positive, SPORTIME can contract trace and take steps to protect against further spread.
  • Staff members or campers who test negative for COVID-19, may return to work/camp as soon as they are symptom free, and upon providing negative test results to SPORTIME.

Use of Face Coverings

  • Preschool campers are not required to mask at any time.
  • Campers, other than preschool campers, are not required to wear face coverings outdoors, but are required to do so in smaller indoor spaces, and on SPORTIME/JMTA transportation, other than when on court, or when eating or drinking.
  • Vaccinated SPORTIME camp staff are not required to wear face coverings outdoors, but are required to do so indoors when interacting with campers, other than when on court, so as to model masking behavior, and when on SPORTIME/JMTA transportation.
  • Unvaccinated SPORTIME camp staff are required to wear face coverings indoors, at all times, including when on court, and when on SPORTIME/JMTA transportation, and to maintain distancing from campers.
  • We know that some may wish to go more slowly, and to continue to mask or distance for a while longer. We will, of course, respect and support the personal choices of our community members, and work closely with players, campers, parents or staff who have particular concerns or needs.

The following protocols are followed at all times on SPORTIME buses or vans:

  • Protective face coverings are to be worn by drivers and campers, regardless of vaccination status; no exceptions.
  • Windows remain partially or fully open during transport; players should dress accordingly.
  • PlexiGlass has been installed between seat rows.

Hygiene Practices

  • Frequent hand washing and sanitizing will be encouraged. We will have indoor and outdoor hand washing stations, and/or sanitizing stations, offering wipes and alcohol-based hand sanitizer, close to all activity areas.
  • Hand washing and/or hand sanitizing will be required throughout the camp day, including before and after snack, water breaks and lunch.

Cleaning and Sanitizing

  • Our camp cleaning team will disinfect all high touch areas, both indoors and outdoors, throughout the camp day.
  • At the conclusion of each day, our repair, maintenance and housekeeping teams will follow enhanced cleaning protocols to ensure that every camp area, inside and outside, is sanitized for the following day.

Rainy Day Procedures

This section applies only to SPORTIME Quogue and EHSC@SPORTIME. For all other location specific policies, please contact your Camp Staff.

  • SPORTIME includes numerous indoor spaces that are dedicated to camp use, or that can be used by camp in inclement weather. During brief rain delays, campers will remain in their groups and each group will be assigned an indoor or covered space where they will be able to do small-group activities while physically distanced from other camp groups. Once the rain passes, the normal camp day schedule will resume.
  • On days when the forecast calls for rain for the entire camp day, or when rain begins early and is forecasted to continue throughout the day, we will enact a camp “rainy day phone chain” to reduce camp capacity on such days. To do this, we will enlist camp families for whom camp does not provide essential childcare, and who have a parent, guardian or childcare provider available during the camp day, to be “links” in the rainy day phone chain. Families who agree to assist, will be texted when a “rain situation” occurs, and will be asked to keep their children home, or to pick them up early. For any camp week during which the rainy day phone chain is utilized more than once, participating families will receive a credit for their lost full or partial days. All families will be given the choice, during the final registration process, of whether or not to participate in the rainy day chain. We thank those of you who are able to do so, for agreeing to assist us in this manner. We are truly all in this together!
