SPORTIME Randall's Island Guidelines

Our goal is to provide a world-class tennis experience to our members and guests, at our state-of-the-art facility, as always; not to impose a lot of rules and restrictions. However, we have created the following policies and guidelines for SPORTIME Randall's Island, designed to ensure the safest, smoothest, tennis experience for members and staff during this challenging time.  These guidelines, and our Company-wide guidelines, will be updated on an ongoing basis, as we receive new information and directives from governmental and other health agencies and organizations, and based on our experience navigating this “new normal”.  While some might view certain protocols as overly cautious, SPORTIME may choose to maintain them, in spite of prevailing guidance, if they make our members, customers and/or staff feel safer and more comfortable. We hope that we will be able to remove most if not all of these rules and restrictions in the near future, but, for now, we ask that you review these guidelines very carefully, follow them without fail, and reach out to us at any time with questions, or for assistance.

Notwithstanding all the precautions that SPORTIME will take, due to the nature of the virus, the risk of contracting COVID-19 remains, as we are all aware.  Please be safe, respect others and follow all of the precautions, protections and protocols put in place during this COVID-19 epidemic.

Club General Safety Guidelines

  • Do not come to the club if you are exhibiting any symptoms of COVID-19, including mild to severe respiratory illness with fever, cough and difficulty breathing, or other symptoms identified by the CDC, or have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days.
  • All members and guests MUST wear protective face coverings when arriving and departing and when on club grounds and not playing, or whenever physical distancing cannot be achieved.
  • All members must maintain six feet of physical distance from all other members and staff at all times, even on the tennis court.
  • On-court water fountains have been replaced with touchless bottle fillers, and bottled water and other beverages are available for purchase at check-in. No food service will be available until further notice, so please bring your own snacks with you.
  • Every court has hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes available.

Club Tennis Rules & Guidelines

  • Singles and doubles play, private lessons, and lesson programs are allowed.
  • Court-time and private tennis lessons, as well as private athletic training sessions, must be booked in advance, and players must also register for group programs in advance, by telephone (212-427-6150) or by email. SPORTIME's prevailing court-time, private lesson/training, and group program cancellation policies apply.
  • For court-time, each booking must have two (singles) or four (doubles) player names associated with it. Those players who are not active SPORTIME members or associate/non-members, will need to become SPORTIME members or affiliate as associate/non-members the first time that they play Click here.
  • Play on designated NYC Parks courts:
    • NYC Parks players must call in advance to make reservations for designated permit holder courts.  No walk-ins are allowed.
    • 7:00am, 8:00am and 9:00am court reservations must be made by 8:00pm the night before, and reservations for courts from 10:00am on must be made no less than three (3) hours in advance. Court reservations are taken no more than 24 hours in advance, with a daily reservation limitation of one (1) hour for singles play, and two (2) hours for doubles play, although players may keep playing after their reserved times have ended if courts are available, upon confirming such availability with club staff.
    • All NYC Parks players must affiliate with SPORTIME as an associate/non-member, prior to play Click here. No Exceptions.
    • A reserved court is forfeited if the reserving player has not arrived by 10 minutes past the start time.
  • For court-time, private lessons and programs, players are asked to enter their assigned courts only after they have been vacated by other players. Courtesy and common sense must prevail at all times.
  • Players are encouraged to change sides on opposite sides of the court, around opposite net posts.
  • While the most recent CDC guidance appears to indicate that transmission of the virus from surfaces is unlikely, in an abundance of caution, we recommend that each player provide his/her own can/s of balls and personalize them clearly, or take note of their unique numbers, as long as the numbers are not the same as the other players' ball numbers. Players should serve or start a rally using their own balls, and should avoid touching balls that do not have their marks; instead they should use their rackets to roll or send the balls to their playing partners. Balls and Personalizing supplies are available at the club.

Club Restrictions

  • The pro shop is open for stringing and "curb side" product purchases; balls are available for purchase at check-in. If you would like us to mark purchased balls with players’ initials, to assist in proper ball hygiene, let us know and doing so will be our pleasure. Bathrooms are open for use by a maximum of two persons at one time.  The cafe is closed until further notice, however bottled water and other beverages are available for purchase at check-in.
  • The clubhouse is closed at this time, other than for restroom access.
  • New traffic flow patterns, to avoid physical distancing issues as players move about the premises, have been established. Signage identifying these patterns, and providing reminders about physical distancing, wearing protective face coverings, and more, has been affixed throughout the club.
  • Staff, including management and facility maintenance teams, are on-site to make sure that the club remains safe and actively maintained at all times. We are also making sure that all distancing and sanitary protocols are followed by all players and by all staff members at all times.
  • Please do not leave any equipment on the courts as it will be discarded.
  • We ask that you please limit your social time at the club until further notice.
