SPORTIME Quogue Camp Guidelines

SPORTIME’s commitment to creating a happy and safe environment for your children has guided our work for more than 20 years. Our camp is a place where every child can have fun, make friends and create lifelong memories. 

In the context of COVID-19, our focus remains the health and wellbeing of our campers, our camp families and our staff. Below are the guidelines SPORTIME will follow for the summer of 2021, which may change, based upon state and local government mandates. 

Notwithstanding all the precautions that SPORTIME will take, due to the nature of the virus, the risk of contracting COVID-19 remains, as we are all aware. Please be safe, respect others and follow all prevailing precautions, protections and protocols.  

CAMP GUIDELINES

Daily Health Screenings of Staff and Campers

  • All camp staff will be screened upon their arrival each morning. This will include an online self-assessment and a temperature check. Any staff member exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, either upon arrival, or at any point during the camp day, will be sent home, and will need to be symptom free and test negative for the virus before returning.
  • Per NYS mandate, all camp parents will be required to complete a quick, online health screening for their child(ren) in advance of their arrival at camp each day, which will, in most cases, allow them to proceed directly to an expedited drop-off area. At that drop-off area, campers' temperatures will be taken by Sportime staff using point and shoot thermometers, and those campers whose temperatures are less than 100.4% will be able to exit their cars and be escorted to their groups. Those campers whose temperatures are 100.4% or higher will be sent home, and the Camp Director or Camp Health Director will follow up with further instructions. Parents who are unable to complete the screening in advance of their arrival at Sportime will be directed to a waiting area, where they will complete the screening, after which their child/ren's temperatures will be taken, and they will begin their camp day. Any camper exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, either upon arrival, or at any point during the camp day, will be sent home, and will need to be symptom free and test negative for the virus before returning.
  • Campers may need to submit updated Health Forms, if and when required by NYS or the Department of Health.
    Parents must keep campers home if they are exhibiting any of the following symptoms:
    • Fever of 100.4 or above
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathingFatigue
    • Muscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Any other signs of illness
  • Our Camp Director reserves the right to send campers and staff members home should they exhibit any of the above symptoms.

Enhanced Hygiene Practices

  • Frequent hand washing and sanitizing will be encouraged. We will have indoor and outdoor hand washing stations, and/or sanitizing stations, offering wipes and alcohol-based hand sanitizer, close to all activity areas.
  • Hand washing and/or hand sanitizing will be required throughout the camp day, including before and after snack, water breaks and lunch. 

Use of Face Coverings

  • Vaccinated campers are not required to wear face coverings during the camp day, indoors or outdoors.
  • Young children/campers (i.e., those that are not yet in kindergarten) do not need to wear face coverings at any time.
  • Unvaccinated campers will not be required to wear face coverings outdoors, but will be required to do so indoors, other than when on court or when eating or drinking.
  • Vaccinated SPORTIME camp staff will not be required to wear a face covering outdoors, but will be required to do so indoors when interacting with campers.
  • Unvaccinated SPORTIME camp staff will be required to wear a face covering, indoors and outdoors, at all times, including when on court, and to maintain distancing from campers.

Lunch, Snack and Hydration

  • In order to minimize food handling by camp staff, parents should provide their child with lunch and snacks in an insulated lunch bag. 
  • If SPORTIME provides snacks, they will be in individual, pre-packaged servings.
  • We will ensure that SPORTIME campers hydrate throughout the camp day. Water stations will be operated by camp staff only and will be used to fill camper water bottles or single-use, disposable cups.

Transportation & Field Trips

  • Transportation to and from camp will not be provided this summer. Parents are asked to drop-off and pick-up campers during their designated times in their designated areas.
  • There will be no field trips this summer. 

Rain Day Schedule

  • SPORTIME Quogue’s campus includes numerous indoor spaces that are dedicated to camp use, or that can be used by camp in inclement weather. These include our four indoor tennis courts, our multi-sport courts, our upper lobby area, and group exercise and other indoor fitness and recreational spaces. During brief rain delays, campers will remain in their groups and each group will be assigned an indoor camp space where they will be able to do small-group activities while physically distanced from other camp groups. Once the rain passes, the normal camp day schedule will resume.
  • On days when the forecast calls for rain for the entire camp day, or when rain begins early and is forecasted to continue throughout the day, we will enact a camp “rainy day phone chain” to reduce camp capacity on such days. To do this, we will enlist camp families for whom camp does not provide essential childcare, and who have a parent, guardian or childcare provider available during the camp day, to be “links” in the rainy day phone chain. Families who agree to assist, will be texted when a “rain situation” occurs, and will be asked to keep their children home, or to pick them up early. For any camp week during which the rainy day phone chain is utilized more than once, participating families will receive a credit for their lost full or partial days. All families will be given the choice, during the final registration process, of whether or not to participate in the rainy day chain. We thank those of you who are able to do so, for agreeing to assist us in this manner. We are truly all in this together!

Procedures When Someone at Camp is Sick

  • If a camper or a staff member becomes sick with COVID-19 symptoms, and/or tests positive for COVID-19, SPORTIME will follow all State and County Department of Health guidelines to ensure the safety of all other campers, staff and camp families. These protocols may include quarantine for the symptomatic or sick camper or staff member, as many as 14 days off from camp for members of the camper’s or staff member’s group, contact tracing, additional facility cleaning, the testing of those who may have made contact with the infected camper or staff, further quarantines or stay at home requests, as may be recommended by health officials, and any other sensible actions designed to keep the larger community safe as any impacted persons recover.
