SPORTIME VBC Beach Camp Guidelines

SPORTIME’s commitment to creating a happy and safe environment for your children has guided our work for more than 20 years. Our camp has been a place where every child can have fun, make friends and create lifelong memories.

In the context of COVID-19, our focus remains the health and wellbeing of our campers, our camp families and our staff. Summer 2020 camp was different from past years; it had to be. But we were able to provide our campers with an amazing camp experience that dramatically minimized risk, while maximizing fun and friendship. Below are the guidelines SPORTIME followed during the summer of  2020, without a single covid related incident! For summer 2021, these guidelines may change, based upon state and local government mandates, or, may, we hope, be eliminated in their entirety with the pandemic behind us!

Notwithstanding all the precautions that SPORTIME will take, due to the nature of the virus, the risk of contracting COVID-19 remains, as we are all aware. Please be safe, respect others and follow all of the precautions, protections and protocols put in place during this COVID-19 epidemic.

PROGRAM GUIDELINES

Daily Health Screenings of Campers and Staff

  • All SPORTIME staff will be screened upon their arrival each day. This will include an online self-assessment and a temperature check. Any staff member exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, either upon arrival, or at any point during the camp day, will be sent home, and will need to be symptom free and test negative for the virus before returning.
  • Players may be required to complete a quick, online health screening for their child(ren) in advance of their arrival each day, which will, in most cases, allow them to proceed directly to our beach drop-off area. At that drop-off area, campers' temperatures may be taken by Sportime staff using point and shoot thermometers, to ensure that temperatures are less than 99.5%.  Those players whose temperatures are 99.5% or higher will be sent home, and the Volleyball Director will follow up with further instructions. Any player exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, either upon arrival, or at any point during the session, will be sent home, and will need to be symptom free and test negative for the virus before returning.
  • Parents must keep campers home if they are exhibiting any of the following symptoms:
    • Fever or chills
    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • FatigueMuscle or body aches
    • Headache
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Sore throat
    • Congestion or runny nose
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Diarrhea
    • Any other signs of illness
  • Our Camp Director reserves the right to send campers and staff members home should they exhibit any of the above symptoms.

Smaller Camp Groupings & Modified Activities

  • Smaller groups with dedicated counselors to ensure camper safety.
  • This summer, we plan to minimize interaction between groups to reduce the amount of contact between campers.
  • Special events will be modified or cancelled if physical distancing cannot be achieved.
  • Modified sports and activities: Our amazing coaches will modify camp activities to provide the safest learning and playing environment that will still be fun!
  • High contact activities such as water slides and inflatable equipment may not be in use this summer.
  • We are creating new outdoor activities for campers to enjoy, including nature walks, yoga, scavenger hunts, gardening…. And more to come!

Enhanced Hygiene Practices

  • The most effective action we can take as individuals is to wash our hands frequently.  At camp, we have outdoor hand washing stations and/or sanitizing stations with wipes and alcohol-based hand sanitizer, close to all activity areas.
  • Hand washing and/or hand sanitizing after each camp activity, including; tennis, team sports, water breaks and before and after snack and lunch.
  • Campers and counselors will wash their hands and/or sanitize their hands upon arrival each morning and prior to dismissal at the conclusion of the camp day.

Intensified Facility Cleaning and Sanitizing Practices

  • Each camp area will be cleaned at the conclusion of each activity session to ensure the safety of the next group to use the space. All sports equipment will be wiped down and clean balls will be rotated in for the next group.
  • Our camp cleaning team will also wipe down all high touch areas, both indoors and outdoors, throughout the camp day.
  • At the conclusion of each day, our incredible maintenance team will follow enhanced cleaning protocols to ensure that every camp area, inside and outside, is sanitized for the following day.
  • If our pool is open, aquatics team members will wipe down all high contact surfaces in the pool area, including railings and ladders, with sanitizing wipes, after each swim session.

The Use of Face Coverings / Masks

  • All camp staff will wear face masks or face covering gaiters during interaction with campers when physical distancing is not possible.
  • It is our hope that campers will not have to wear face masks, but should they be required to do so by the Department of Health, we will make it safe and even fun!

Intensive Staff Training

  • All SPORTIME camp staff completes a thorough orientation and training each summer prior to camp. This summer, our staff training will be expanded to include all updated safety protocols and activity modifications, to ensure that our campers remain safe while at SPORTIME and still have a fun and unforgettable summer camp experience.

Lunch, Snack and Hydration

  • Lunch schedules will be staggered to reduce the number of campers at each lunch session and seating will be spaced out to achieve adequate physical distancing.
  • Lunches will be plated by professional food handlers or box lunches will be provided.
  • Campers are welcome to bring their own snacks. SPORTIME may provide daily snacks which will be in individual, pre-packaged servings.
  • SPORTIME campers will be properly hydrated throughout the camp day. Water stations will be operated by camp staff only and will be used to fill camper water bottles or one time use disposable cups.

Transportation & Field Trips

  • Transportation to and from camp will not be provided. Parents are asked to drop off and pick up campers during their designated times.
  • Field trips will be limited and based upon State guidelines regarding transportation.

Rain Day Schedule

  • SPORTIME houses ample indoor camp spaces, including tennis courts, multi-sport courts and/or turf fields, classrooms and recreational areas.  During brief rain delays to the camp day, campers will remain in their groups and will be assigned an indoor camp space that will be physically distanced from other camp groups.  Once the rain passes, the normal camp day schedule will resume.
  • On days when the forecast calls for rain the entire camp day or when rain begins early and is forecasted to continue throughout the day, we will enlist camp families who have agreed to keep their children home, or to pick up early, to do so, in order to reduce the overall camp capacity for that rain day.  Those families will receive…….????? As a thank you for their cooperation and assistance.

Procedures For When Someone at Camp is Sick

  • If a camper happens to become sick with COVID-19 symptoms and/or tests positive for COVID-19, SPORTIME is committed to follow all guidelines created by the Department of Health to ensure the safety of all campers and camp families, including proper contact tracing and facility cleaning.
