German Samofalov
German, originally from Makiivka, Ukraine, began playing tennis at the age of six and was ranked #1 nationally in his home country in the U10 through U18 divisions. He achieved career-high rankings of #9 in the Tennis Europe U14 division, #33 in the Tennis Europe U16 division, and #39 in the ITF U18 division. German won multiple Tennis Europe and ITF singles and doubles titles across the U12 through U18 divisions, and was a Junior Roland Garros Doubles Finalist in 2021. Beginning in 2021, he attended the University of Alabama, where he played at the top of the lineup for two seasons and led the team with 17 doubles wins as a sophomore. In 2023, he transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University, where he played #1 in both singles and doubles, and helped lead the team to back-to-back Atlantic 10 Conference titles in 2024 and 2025. He achieved a career-high ITA doubles ranking of #30. German earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from VCU in 2025, and joined the SPORTIME/JMTA team later that year.
